My Family; My Life; My Memories: Pioneer Food Village

Sometime back in April or May, we heard 93.3FM DJ Chong Qing recommended a place over radio that sells very nice Zhu Chao food. After tons of "pestering" by Hui that he wanted to go there and eat, today we finally drove all the way from Eunos down to Tuas West Ave for the food!

It's a long long journey! You will exit from the 2nd last exit(Tuas West Road) in AYE to reach the place. If you missed it, you may still exit from the next exit(Tuas West Drive). But if you are blind enough to miss that exit again, you will be heading straight to Second Link checkpoint and by then, get ready your passport to go Malaysia for dinner instead!

Hai Siang Joo Seafood Restaurant was situated in Pioneer Food Village, a coffeeshop located at Tuas West Ave. By 7.30pm, all other stalls in the coffeeshop will be closed and the only stall left open will be Hai Siang Joo. It is opened till 10pm and last order probably is around 9.30pm.

At the stall, we saw that one of their dish was being recommended in the newspaper and it was the 'Crystal Kway Teow or Fen Pi fried with XO sauce and seafood'. It was highly recommended by the lady taking our orders but we didn't eat that as we wanted to try out their Zhu Chao.

We ordered Sambal Kang Kong, Sweet & Sour Pork (My all-time favourite), Tou fu with broccoli (The lady said the Tou fu is made of beancurd and is one of their speciality dish), 2 bowl of rice and 2 cups of home-made water chestnut drink.

As for the price, I would consider slightly expensive for a stall located in a coffeeshop at Tuas area. The minimum price of a vegetable cost about $8 and a S size plate of meat minimum cost $10. Seafood cost about $20 and above. But at least I think the food was really worth that price as it really had the standard of a restaurant even though it is located at one end of the red dot on the globe!

Since there were only 2 of us, we couldnt order too much dishes as we would not be able to finish. But I would want to re-visit the place again, this time with more kakis to try out their seafood. Any fellowship for Journey To The Extreme West??
