The fear finally came true

Last Sat, Strait Times was having it's 160th Anniversary carnival at East Coast Park. If you had follow the newspaper closely since 1st July, you would probably knew about the riddle game and winning a Mazda 6. Hui and I woke up early in the morning to go down to ECP to drop the riddle coupon into the lucky draw box hoping to win a car back.All coupon have to be collected before 11.30am or it would considered to be void for the lucky draw.....

Along the ECP expressway turning towards East Coast Parkway, our nightmare happened. Due to the overwhelming respond, exit 10A was totally jam with cars. The advantage of having a bike was that it was able to squeeze through during traffic jam. As the cars were very near to each other, Hui took the road shoulder. While the bike was still in motion at low speed, this nissan sunny car driver let his passenger to get out of the car in the expressway, hoping to walk to East Coast Park by using the road shoulder so that they could drop the coupon into the box before 11.30am. Without checking if there were oncoming vehicle, the back seat passenger opened the car door and hit right at our bike which caused us to fall.

Bike fallen to the curb, Hui and me fell into the bushes at the side of the road shoulder. Blood and bruises were found on our legs. Luckily, there were no head injuries as it was bushes and not concrete walls! Both party were at fault. But I would think that driver was in a bigger trouble. We had offend traffic rules but they not only offend traffic rules, they had cause injuries to third party due to their carelessness!

No ambulance nor police were involved. We settled it privately. Hui had lodge a accident report with IDAC. We have decided not to pay for each other damages. But ofcourse, we suffered heavier damage (bike + injuries) compared to that driver, where only the car door was dented, and no injuries at all to that 3 person seating comfortably in the car!

Hui had bruises on his leg and chest, and knocked his chin which was now swollen. He had seen a doctor and done his xray. Hopefully no internal injuries.
As for me, I "won" a pig trotter leg at the Straits Times 160th Anniversary!

Many people around us always said we shouldn't have a bike as our transport because it's dangerous. Car is Tie Bao Ren. Motor is Ren Bao Tie. In Hui's opinion, as long as the driver is safe and dun speed, nothing will happen. Well, the fear in everyone's heart had finally happened. After this accident, both of us not only suffered external injuries, but also internal fear. Hui felt guilty for causing my injuries. After persuasion from Hui's siblings and serious calculation of our money, we have decided to sell away the bike and get a car........
