This year Chinese New Year is not the same as last year. There are no exchange of $$ at the bank, no angbaos to wrap, no new clothes, no decorations. Nothing! Daddy had left us coming to 1 year soon. According to tradition, when an immediate family had pass away before 1 year of Chinese New Year, the family members are not suppose to celebrate this event nor give out red packets. But there's also a saying that this "rule" does not apply to daughters of the family because they are considered married-out. So daughters married are not part of the family anymore? Olden days, daughters are treated like water! Anyway, we are in this new era! So to consider myself as part of the Wong family, I did not celebrate CNY together with my mother too.
A last minute trip was planned to Port Dickson, together with Hui's sisters/BIL. Not our desired hotel booked but since it was the only available ones at a reasonable rate during CNY period, hence we booked it. It was our first trip out of Singapore during CNY. It was also our first self-drive trip to a longer distance in Malaysia. Port Dickson was about 200+Km away from the Tuas link. Setting off at 10+am and reached the Tuas link around 11am. Along the M'sia highway, there were 2 accidents at different area and the massive jam got us stuck there for about an hour for each accident. Saw a tragic accident of a M'sia car flip upside down and an auntie was lying dead with body in between the passenger door and floor. Was feeling heartpain to see such things, especially with the thoughts that they were probably rushing home for reunion dinner with their family members on CNY eve. :(
We took a break after about 100+ Km drive for lunch. The kids were hungry and grouchy by then after the long ride in the car. A&W was our lunch option. Somehow it does not taste as nice as before anymore. The all famous root beer float that was serve in the cute glass mug was now serve in paper cup. Lost the originality which I once know since primary school days. After a quick lunch, we rush off straight to Port Dickson since it was pretty late already.
Reach our Lexis hotel at 5pm. Not much crowd at the reception and the check-in was a breeze. Headed straight to our room via the buggy ride We booked an executive water chalet room which have a king size bed and a day bed. It's enough to sleep for a family of 5 although the room only allows max 3 pax. Yes, we "smuggled" 2 additional kids and 1 toddler in without paying the extra charges. Typical Singaporean way...:)

Fireworks on the eve of CNY! M'sian can put fireworks themselves. Lots of boom boom boom after the countdown at 12am!

Day 2: Buffet breakfast in the hotel, Swimming in the morning, Spa at Avispa @ Avillion hotel (A 5km drive away from Lexis), lunch at Lexis hotel cafe, dinner at Old Town White Coffee which is few Km drive away from Lexis, shopping at Giant.
Did a 60 mins signature massage and 50 mins body wrap @ about SGD$176/pax after conversion. Relatively cheap compared to a similar spa done locally!
Thanks to my elder SIL/BIL for helping to baby sit the 3 kids to give Hui and me 2.5 hours of couple time! They did a great job and entertained the kids for 2+ hours doing some art and craft and cheesecakes at Avillion hotel cafe.

Day 3: Buffet breakfast in the hotel, packed and check-out. Drove all the way to Johor Premium outlet for lunch before heading back to Singapore via Tuas link. Dinner was done at Changi Airport T3 together and finally head back home to unpack. Kids were all asleep on the way back home from T3.
